The results of the Cardio Now survey

The use of digital technology in medical practice is ever increasing. The speed of transmission of information wirelessly withWifiand networks5G, now allows the remote monitoring of patients with serious diseases such as cardiovascular, pulmonary and other diseases. The transmission of the heart's electrical activity through a portable – very small device, about the size of a credit card(withCEcertification as a medical device), which transmits the electrocardiogram in near real time (EKG) of the user (one channel – one hijack), is now possible with the device "Cardio Now” via the app iWelli ClinicApp (Android).

Purpose

The assessment of the reliability of the device Cardio Now in the identification of basic ECG parameters such as rate, frequency (HR),negative T waves, QTc, QRS, PR as well as the recognition of extraordinary contractions.

Material and Method

Fifty-five patients underwent ECG with a conventional electrocardiograph (GE MAC1200ST) and at the same time as Cardio Now. The Cardio The now connected via Bluetooth in smartphones / tablets and the ECG was recorded for 30 sec.A comparison was made of basic ECG parameters with McNemar and paired t-testfor categorical or continuous variables respectively. The results were extracted with the statistical packages SPSS ver.25 (IBM, SPSS Statistics, USA).

Results

The device Cardio Now showed no differences in the recognition of ECG rhythm, LBBB and spontaneous contractions compared to the conventional electrocardiograph (table 1). A difference was observed in the discrimination of negative T waves (p=0.01) and the recognition of RBBB (p=0.03) (table 1). The continuous variables HR, QTc, PR and QRS did not show any statistically significant difference as shown in table 2).

Conclusions

Real-time remote patient monitoring through new technologies is now feasible and accessible to everyone. The remote recording of the ECG (of a lead), with reliability in its basic parameters, and its transmission within a short period of time is the first integrated Greek effort through the application and the patient database of iWelli.
